French toast is one of the classic favorite weekend breakfasts. It’s super simple and quick to make. And now with just a few simple swaps you can make the best healthy whole wheat french toast ever!
FRENCH TOAST WITH WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
Whole wheat breads are a little more dry in texture and in my opinion that makes them perfect for french toast. They can soak up all the egg mixture without getting too soggy! I used one of my favorite sprouted whole grain bread from Angelic bakehouse but feel free to use any kind of whole wheat bread that you have on hand! The hearty and nutty flavor of the bread add an amazing taste to the french toast too!
HOW TO MAKE WHOLE WHEAT FRENCH TOAST STEP BY STEP
First prepare all 7 ingredients.
FRENCH TOAST INGREDIENTS
Whole grain bread
Plant based milk
Eggs (choose pasture-raised if possible)
Cinnamon – use a saigon cinnamon if possible! It’s so much more flavorful than regular
Butter (vegan or grass fed) or coconut oil
Pure vanilla extract
Maple syrup
Add all the ingredients in a large plate or shallow bowl…
and then whisk it all up! Meanwhile preheat a large non stick pan and add some butter.
Dip bread slices into the egg mixture on both sides. Transfer bread to preheated skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
Serve warm topped with fruit of choice and maple syrup!

Ingredients
1 tbsp butter or coconut oil
4 slices of whole grain bread
2 eggs (pasture-raised if possible)
1/2 cup plant based milk
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
Instructions
Preheat a large pan with butter.
In a large plate or shallow bowl whisk up all the ingredients except the bread.
Dip bread slices into the egg mixture on both sides. Transfer bread to preheated skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
Serve warm with fruits and maple syrup!
